Gwen Mathews, MS

gwenAs SHC partner and administrator of the Federal Grants and Fundraising Services division, Gwen directs the firm’s activities on behalf of clients throughout the grant-seeking process and oversees the efforts of the firm’s extensive grants staff and its fundraising services. Under her guidance the team has secured over $100,000,000 in federal funding for clients.

Under Gwen’s direction, the SHC Grants Division is ideally suited to help clients identify grant and funding sources that are a strong match with their areas of need. Each client is provided with in-depth training in the federal grant application process designed to assure success in their grant endeavors. The SHC team’s commitment to quality ensures that their grant applications not only are articulate but compelling, with the applicants telling ‘their stories.’ While Gwen and her team believe in approaching the grants process in a proactive, well-planned manner so that deadlines are met in a timely fashion, they also are well-skilled in responding to and successfully directing grant processes with a short turn-around time.

Gwen joined Strategic Health Care in 2004: her leadership position with the company speaks to her nearly 35-year record of accomplishments in health care as a consultant, grant writer, program developer, administrator, and executive. Her grant expertise includes writing grants for numerous hospitals and health care organizations, not-for-profit, and municipal government agencies, targeting funding opportunities at the federal, state and local levels. She has successfully secured federal grants from numerous agencies, including the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development and Americorp; she has also written a number of successful state grants covering such areas as substance abuse, homelessness, mental health issues and criminal justice.

In addition to her expertise in the world of Federal Grants, Gwen has a wide array of organizational talents encompassing strategic planning; program planning and development; policies and procedures; training, management and development practices of boards of directors; nonprofit fundraising events; and full-service fund development activities.

A founding and current member of the Fund Raising Society of Louisville (FREML), Gwen received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Bellarmine University and a master’s degree in Community Development from the University of Louisville.
